Why Is It Important for a Child to Have Confidence?

19/03/2022

Being confident helps children play, talk, move, explore and learn more. That’s because they inherently believe that they can face the challenges ahead of them. As a result, they will go out there more without fearing much for failure, shame and consequences.

Why is it important for a child to be confident

For us adults, if we feel confident we tend to socialise more and try a variety of things. In the back of our minds (whether we’re deeply aware or not), we know that even if something goes wrong we can always figure it out. This willingness to go out and try new things allows more luck and opportunities to find us (and also learn more and get to know more people along the way).

It works the same way for children. If they always feel confident, they will play more with other children, play with different toys, actively participate more in extracurriculars and be more willing to try new activities. As a result, they gain a variety of experiences and they get to use and practice more of their language skills and physical capabilities. In other words, their cognitive and physical development becomes more rapid and continuous.

This is crucial in the child’s early years when rapid brain development occurs. In addition, the early benefits and advantages will accumulate and snowball through the years. With each little advantage early on, children gain momentum which can make their journey smoother in big school and beyond.

This early momentum can help your child gain a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy, language, social skills and physical abilities. That’s because they will always be ready to take on a variety of challenges and as a result, they will learn more about how the world works. They will also gain a variety of experiences which can help develop their deep sense of appreciation and abilities in different fields including science, nature, music, arts and sports.

An early momentum and a strong foundation go a long way in increasing your child’s chance at long-term success. Also, the journey ahead will be more fun because he/she can get to know more people, form strong bonds and gain more fun experiences. Whether at home, playground or early learning centre, confidence can help children with their rapid brain development and long-term journey.
